The time is now 8:00 pm here in New York and that means it’s 12:00 AM (UTC). In other words, submissions have closed. I’d like to thank everyone who has submitted and design and is participating. My inbox is overflowing, but I can safely guess there are 45–50 total designs.
Submissions have closed! Live previews will be available on August 2, 2007, by 12:00 AM (UTC). Results will be announced on August 6, 2007, by 12:00 AM (UTC).
I’d like to encourage everyone who has submitted a design to post an entry on their blog with their design and then leave a trackback on this post. I think that would be a fun way to share and discuss while the judges do their thing. Especially since I’m swamped with sorting through these designs.
Also, I have a ton of designer bios to get online, which I’m going to focus on doing after I get the judges started on their task. So please be patient. They will be online before the live previews go online.
Thanks to everyone who has participated. I’m just as excited to see the designs as everyone else. Yes!

those posts should still be screenshots only (no demos or downloads) until the 6th, right?
No, downloads are fine. Just wanted to wait until after submissions closed. Everyone’s in the clear now.
Couldn’t really deprive the commnity, now could I?
Thanks for everything guys. This competition was a class act.
I’m really looking forward into getting my teeth into the other designs just so that I can learn new tricks and techniques with Sandbox.
Ditto Will’s comment. Thanks for putting this on, and for creating Sandbox. I stubbornly ignored it until a few days ago. Now, if nothing else, I’ll be using Sandbox as the foundation for any future themes I design. Thanks for the great work!
The Sandbox has greatly improved my XHTML/CSS skills and awareness. Thanks for developing it in the first place, Scott and Andy!
alrighty, then. looks like i’ll have to get cracking on that custom header API.
and from the looks of the trackbacks, a post explaining
Template: Sandboxwould be helpful.I am saying thank you too, for organizing such a great competition;-)
Thanks for everything. I think the whole thing was carried out very professionally and you did a really great job promoting and getting sponsors.
Um, am I the only one who thinks it might have been preferable for submissions to remain anonymous until the judging process was over? Never mind.
A thread has begun in forums for screenshots of the designs (Thanks, Adam). It’s appropriately titled
Screenshots Thread (Dialup users beware)
Enjoy.
Well, I believe that with folks already having released screenshots that it would be hard to enforce this 100%. Of course, if you don’t release your design, then judges won’t have any way to correlate the two. The judging site will be anonymous. I have asked the judges to stay on the sides until after results are announced. So I hope that will keep things as neutral as possible.
I’ve got my theme screenies on a page, not a post… I don’t think it’s sending out Trackbacks.

@that girl:
Some people put footers with credit info using images or content:… so all of the designs aren’t anonymous in the first place.
@that girl again-
that was my initial reaction, but i suppose at this point, it’s up to the judges to remain impartial. that’s probably too subjective to legislate. with a week to judge 40+ designs, we’ll hope they’re keeping busy enough to avoid following up on their favorite designers.
@engtech
I’ll see if I can’t make a trackback for you. Also, Askimet doesn’t care for you. I’ve caught all your comments as spam.
good thing I’m checking . . .
It’s been the plan all along to allow release of designs after submissions close. Sundurntkamel’s right in that it’d bee too difficult to legislate. Plus the point system assures that each judge has equal input.
!@#$!@# akismet.
ah… I think I know why Akismet is marking me as spam.
It’s because of a stupid bug with trackbacks.
If you have too many pages, then sometimes your page names will get used in the trackback instead of the correct text. People see this and mark it as spam instead of a contextual trackback.
I can’t wait to see all the entries. It’s been fun coming back to the cabin and seeing what’s been made public so far — but 45-50? Wow!
Not sure what’s going on, Engtech. Akismet is a harsh lover. I do find it immensely funny that your comment,
was flagged by Akismet.
Testing to see if taking the at out of my username helps with the akismet prob.
Sorry, Engtech. Took me a while to catch that last one. I was a bit occupied getting the judges on task. But no, you were spammed again.

[...] I am sure most you are eagerly waiting for the SandBox theme that I was developing for the SandBox theme competition. I have labeled the theme as SandPress I spend a total of 2*5+5+5=20 hours last week designing the mockup, the mockup went through 3 major iterations I had a lot of trouble coming up with the color scheme in the end I decided to use the WordPress default color and go for a minimalist design, I used Everaldo’s superb GPL Icons to add some punch, then I spent another 3*5+15=30 hours this week converting the design to XHTML and CSS. The last day i.e Saturday was the worst, I had finished only 80% and I had to make sure it was cross browser compatible. It was really challenging to do this since this is the first time I have tried to design using just CSS. Learning the ins and outs of the SandPress and trying to come up with solutions and workaround using just CSS was extremely challenging. I managed to some new CSS tricks and skills. Ok enough of the blabbering. Here is the theme and I am supposed to leave a pingback to the sandbox blog. [...]
